How many people do you know that enjoy country music? There are the classics such as Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, George Jones, Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, and Loretta Lynn. While they may not be as big as these country superstars, there are many newer country artists. Some of our newer country artists are Kelsea Ballerini, Maddie & Tae, Sam Hunt, or Chris Stapleton. The CMAs will be Nov. 4, at 8 on ABC-TV. Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood will be hosting the CMAs as they have been since 2008. The winners are chosen by nearly 6,300 people also in the industry. In 1958 the Country Music Awards were started, however, they were not broadcast at that point. Sonny James and Bobbie Gentry hosted this event. The CMA Awards were first broadcast in 1969. On this night in history Johnny Cash won five awards, including Entertainer and Male Vocalist. Also on this night Gene Autry and Bill Monroe were inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. On Oct. 16,1972 Loretta Lynn was the first female to win CMA Awards Entertainer of the Year.
The Vibe took a poll on who our student body would vote for. Seventeen people participated in our poll. Not shown are Album of the Year: Pain Killer, Vocal Duo: Dan + Shay, Entertainer of the Year: Luke Bryan. The survey revealed a tie for Single of the Year: Girl Crush by Little Big Town and Take Your Time by Sam Hunt.
