On May 11th, Numerous Marysville FFA members went to Creekview Intermediate School to teach students about specifically where their food comes from. These members brought various prompts, such as sheep, to help them demonstrate as to why agriculture is important for food production. Students of Creekview Intermediate School brought great enthusiasm and attention towards the FFA Organization. This event is named Food for America held traditionally every year.
Members that were selected to be on the team for Food for America were Amy McElfresh, Shae Leeper, Alli Lee, Taci Welch, Logan Williams, Jared Geyer, Kaylie Leeman, Cassidy Page, Katie Vanhoose, Phylyn Forrider, Katie Chapman, Megan King, Leighann Shanklin, Laci Welch, Emily Rostofer, Ryan Cook, Jesse McCleary and Derek Guy. During this event, students rotated through eight stations, our stations included; learning about a combine, planting soybeans, milking an artificial cow, learning about by-products and meat products of the pig industry, talking about sheep, information on the bee industry, and making ice cream. Animals were brought by Zach Rausch who brought a calf, a piglet provided by Jason Adams, and sheep brought by Jared Geyer. These stations kept the students entertained and involved throughout the day as they learned something interesting at each station. Each station provided the students with two agriculture statistics that they were told to remember for the statistic game challenge at the end of their session. The statistic game asked questions revolving the statistics given. One statistic was that bacon is the oldest meat product in history. The kids favorites tended to be those stations who had animals that were “adorable” and able to be played with along with learning about the combine, in which a combine head was provided to us by Darrison Cook. Marysville FFA has been doing this for numerous years and has never failed to provide fun for the intermediate school children. Our chapter appreciates the students outstanding attention throughout the hot day, as they remained involved and kept listening throughout each of our stations.
