Marysville FFA went to the Ohio State Convention for FFA on April 30th and May 1st of 2015. At the convention, the chapter received various outstanding awards. The awards included, Top 10 Chapter in Community Development, Top 10 in Student Development, along with one of the Top 10 Chapters in the state of Ohio. In particular, Laci Welch was recognized for first in the state for the proficiency of Small Animal Care and Production, and Mr. Williams, Assistant Principal of Marysville High School, was awarded the Honorary State FFA Degree. Former student of Marysville High School, Jessica Wickline, was recognized as the runner up for Ohio’s nominee for the Star American FFA Degree.
In total, the Ohio FFA has over twenty-three thousand members and over three hundred chapters. As one of the top 10 chapters in Student and Community Development, and through hard work and dedication, the Marysville High School FFA was recognized as one of the top ten chapters in Ohio at the State Convention. Laci Welch, previous vice president of the Marysville FFA and a senior at Marysville High School also received special recognition. Laci was awarded first in state for her Small Animal Care and Production and will be moving on to nationals at the National FFA Convention for this proficiency. Laci started this proficiency by receiving a few rabbits as gifts and then recognizing the need for market rabbits in the community, she ventured to breed, raise, and sell about eighty rabbits including White New Zealands and Californian market rabbits to use for show and breeding projects to several 4-H and FFA exhibitors. She hopes to keep this production going mainly focusing on the youth for their fair projects.
Shawn Williams, MHS Assistant Principal, also received special recognition at the convention, receiving the Honorary State Degree. The honorary state degree is awarded to a person who brings help throughout every hardship that chapters in the FFA may encounter. This is quite the challenge and it takes an extremely devoted individual to receive this award. Shawn Williams never fails to be that extremely devoted individual has always been the helping hand in Marysville FFA especially when it comes to the brilliant ideas our chapter needs to become the best it can be and was fortunate enough to receive the Honorary State Degree at the Ohio State Convention of 2015.
Jessica Wickline always has had the Marysville FFA as one of her top priorities and she remained determined to be the best of the best. After four years of developing her club calf herd, Jessica received state recognition for the success of her business. She was the State Runner Up for the opportunity to be Ohio’s Star American Candidate for the coming National FFA Convention this fall. The Star American Degree is the highest degree that an individual can be awarded in FFA and we congratulate Jessica on this achievement.
Our chapter’s hard work and dedication continues to pay off. The Marysville FFA is extremely grateful to have individuals such as Jessica Wickline and Laci Welch who continue to show their passion for the FFA, along with Shawn Williams who remains to bring amazing assistance to our chapter as he encourages us to be the best we can possibly be.
