On Wednesday, October 28th, 40 Marysville FFA Members traveled to the 2015 National Convention in Louisville, Kentucky and stayed until Friday, October 30th. Former officer of the Maysville FFA and graduate of Marysville High School, Laci Welch traveled with the Marysville FFA. Laci was competing at the National level for her proficiency, Small Animal Production and Care, in which, she won with at the 2015 Ohio State Convention. Marysville FFA was also awarded three star chapter.
National Convention is a time that all FFA Members from the United States of America can gather and enjoy motivational and inspirational speakers. Along with, congratulating award recipients who dedicate an overwhelming amount of effort into their projects. Laci Welch was one of those people who Marysville FFA chapter really looks up to as she dedicates so much time into her project. Laci chose a proficiency called Small Animal Production and Care the small animal being rabbits. Proficiencies are where you competitively specify on a project called a Supervised Agricultural Experience, which is a project required to be in an Agricultural class and recording proper funds. In Laci’s particular proficiency, she bred and raised market rabbits, specifically the breeds of rabbits called New Zealand's and Californians. Laci would sell these rabbits to numerous FFA and 4-H exhibitors who would show them at their local fair. Laci Welch continued with her proficiency to State Convention where she competed with similar projects across the state of Ohio. On May 1st, 2015 she was placed first for her Small Animal Production and Care Proficiency. To make it onto National Convention, four certain individuals from all over the nation, will move on to compete in the National Convention whom all have similar proficiencies. These four individuals would then undergo a two minute speech given in front of four judges and the four individuals you are competing with, and then asked skillful questions over your project. The judges will then further look over your record keeping abilities and place those individuals accordingly. Overwhelmingly, Laci was one of those four individuals to get the opportunity to compete at the National level and walk across stage at National Convention. Congratulations to Laci Welch for her continuous, hard and dedicated work.
Along with Laci winning her proficiency at State Convention we also got awarded as a gold chapter in the state of Ohio. Chapters our awarded bronze, silver or gold, gold being the highest, according to a National Chapter award application we fill out, hoping to be top ten in the nation.
