You may have been wondering why some students walked the halls wearing a bright yellow sash on Tuesday, and the reason should make all Monarchs proud. The Marysville High School band has earned yet another superior rating for their astounding performance at Dayton University. “We spent so many hours on the show,” Gabe Pullen, a sophomore trumpet player for the MHS band states, “We have put so much into this, I’m so glad we got this rating yet again.” Pullen, along with three other sophomore students, describe the moment they found out they got the superior rating- and it was a moment they will not forget. “We were all jumping up and down,” Trombone player Andrew Snodgrass says, smiling at the memory, “There was so much excitement, we were all cheering. It was awesome.”
In two years, the sophomores in the MHS band have earned nine superior ratings. They earned five their freshman year, and four this year. “We hope to aim for better scores next year and beyond,” Zac Cavinee, one of the band’s cymbal players, tells the Monarch Vibe. The entire year of 2015, the MHS band has received superior ratings for every single competition they have competed in. “We all work so hard for this,” Ethan Jimenez, a trumpet player for the band, says, “We aim to get superior ratings for the rest of our high school career. It’s such an amazing feelings knowing that you get this rating. I almost cried this time we got the superior rating. I thought we missed our shot and that we were going to get a lesser rating, yet we got superior.” The Marysville High School band continues to tackle whatever competition comes at them. The four sophomores who spoke to the Vibe are anticipating their future in the band. “We’re trying for trophies, more superior ratings, whatever we can get.” Pullen says, “The future for the MHS band is going to be awesome.”
